Training for Menstrual Educators
The Menstrual Education training program aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the subject to ensure proper professional work within the Menstruation Without Taboo project, which promotes menstrual education workshops in schools and other institutions.
Some of the topics covered during the training include: the history of menstruation; the origin of taboos and the idea of disgust surrounding menstrual blood; different cultural perspectives on the subject; the medicalization of menstruation and resistance practices; what menstrual poverty is and its impacts; how menstrual education works from an emancipatory perspective; how to approach menstrual education with boys and men; intersectional and inclusive menstrual education; playful and pedagogical tools for working with the subject; information about female and menstruating anatomy and the menstrual cycle; physical, mental, and emotional changes linked to the cycle and how they are perceived in society; menstrual hygiene and self-care; sexuality and contraception; among other topics.
The training takes place online, with weekly meetings lasting three hours, totaling 30 hours of coursework. At the end of the training, the educator must present a teaching sequence to be implemented. After approval of the teaching sequence, as part of the training requirement, the professional must apply the content to a group of people and submit a report on the work carried out. Once the report is approved, the educator is qualified to work within the project in a paid role.
To participate in the training, a completed higher education degree and affinity with the topic are required; teaching experience is also desirable. The training is not limited to women — any gender may participate.
Our first group began in August 2025, with twelve professionals from the cities of Barbacena, Juiz de Fora, Cataguases, Ouro Preto, Campinas, São Paulo, Mossoró, and Boa Vista.
If you are interested in participating in future editions of the Menstrual Education training or would like to bring the training to your community, please get in touch.
